The “13 on 13” bet for the regions, but also for the prevalence of the candidates it supported in the 3 large municipalities, the ND lost in the second round of the self-governing elections. The great upheaval took place in the municipality of Athens where Mr. Haris Doukas which was supported by PASOK prevailed over the outgoing mayor Kostas Bakoyanniswhile Mr. Angeloudis beat Kostas Zervas in Thessaloniki. Of the six regions that the ND contested, it managed to win only one, that of Peloponnese with Mr. Dimitris Ptochos. In Thessaly, Mr. Kostas Agorastos lost to the PASOK candidate who was also supported by SYRIZA, Mr. Dimitris Kouretas. In four other districts the ruling party’s nominees are losing to party rebels. The great abstinence, however, is estimated to be one of the factors that changed balances and in some cases brought reversals.

The election result is the first defeat of the ND with multiple interpretations and readings, while the opposition on its side is counting gains – the SYRIZA president Stefanos Kasselakis in his post on Facebook he talks about the first big crack in the Mitsotakis regime, while PASOK parallels the victory of Harry Doukas in Athens with the victory of David over Goliath. The KKE he is also counting gains, with the candidates he supported winning in Patras, Kaisariani, Petroupoli and Haidari.

The Prime Minister admitted defeat Kyriakos Mitsotakis, saying that tonight is not a particularly good night for the ND, adding, however, that the political conclusions were drawn the previous Sunday.

Mr. Bakoyannis in his statement, at 8 pm, he made it known that he congratulated Mr. Doukas, thanked him for the nice pre-election campaign they had and hastened to note that the responsibility for the result is his. Looking for the reasons for the defeat of Bakoyannis in Athens, it is considered that the case of the reconstruction of the University and the negative publicity it received played a role.

He admitted his defeat shortly before 8.30 and o Mr. Costas Zervas in Thessaloniki who also congratulated his rival and new mayor of the city, Stelios Angeloudis.

Commenting on the result on Sky TV, Pavlos Tsimas and Alexis Papachelas noted that the difference is made today by three people, all three of them low-key, Haris Doukas in Athens, Dimitris Ptochos in the Peloponnese region and Dimitris Kouretas in the region of Thessaly, who, in fact, declared that he cannot celebrate since Thessaly is a wound and that he will do all he can to close it.

Especially in the regions, only one of the blue candidates, Mr. Dimitris Ptochos prevailed over his opponent, Petros Tatoulis. In the other four regions – Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, Western Macedonia, Northern Aegean, Ionian Islands – the ND “rebels” prevailed over the official candidates.
