Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced the recruitment of 6,500 doctors and nurses to the NHS within 2024 through his tiktok account.

The reason was a question he had received about doctors’ salaries, informing that just a few days ago the planning for the recruitment of 6,500 doctors and nurses in 2024 was approved.

“Before the elections, I had uploaded a video about the National Health Service and I had committed myself to some important interventions. In response to your question, the time has come for me to tell you that we have already started implementing them,” the prime minister initially said and added: “First and foremost, a few days ago the cabinet approved the recruitment planning for the year 2024. So, in 2024, in the next year, 6,500 doctors and nurses will be hired to staff hospitals and health centers throughout the country.”

“You often tell me that the salaries of doctors and nurses are low and you are right, so let me tell you about the measures we have already implemented:

-Increase the salaries of our doctors by 10%

-Additional allowance to ICU doctors and Anesthesiologists of 400 euros per month

-Additional allowance of 250 euros per month to ER doctors

-Additional 1,800 euros of the salary for those who move to islands

-Increasing the risk allowance for nurses to 200 euros per month

-Additional 1,200 euros of the salary for travel to the islands

Mr. Mitsotakis also highlighted the financial incentives given to young doctors who choose pathology and general medicine:

“And something else very important! We have decided to give generous financial incentives to our young doctors, who will choose pathology or general medicine as a specialty. It will concern a total of 2,500 new doctors.

They are children who studied here and now they will have an additional incentive to stay in our country to serve two specialties, pathology and general medicine that are so critical for the country to finally have quality primary health care.

Finally, there is secured funding of 1.5 billion euros to build the Emergency Departments in 96 hospitals and to repair a total of 156 health centers throughout the country”, said Mr. Mitsotakis and announced a video that will concern the administrations of the hospitals .
