“We are in the worst moment of SYRIZA since the party was created” he said and added that “it is time for decisions”.
Dimitris Vitsas spoke to SKAI on Monday morning about the “civil war” that has broken out in SYRIZA and the referral of Stefanos Tzoumakas to the party’s Ethics Committee.
“I can neither be equidistant, nor choose camps, the statute must be followed, so we don’t know if Mr. Tzoumakas will be removed yet.”
SYRIZA is at its worst moment
“We are in the worst moment of SYRIZA since the party was created”, he said and added that “it is time for decisions”.
“There are two possibilities, one is that everyone leaves one by one, the second is that there is an agreement and the MPs start leaving in groups, however splits during the conference have not happened,” he said on the show “Today” . “There is a large percentage of about 45% which will either follow or not follow Mr. Kasselakis,” he added.
Regarding the conference, he said: “There are serious issues in society that we need to deal with. Mr. Spirtzis and Mr. Teboneras were right, that the congress had to be held first, then the election of the president, etc., so that we could finish by the end of the year and then deal with the serious issues of society. We will “pull” it until the end of February”.
“None of the 5 candidates could hold the party together”
Asked if Mr. Kasselakis can keep SYRIZA united, Mr. Vitsas said: “None of the five candidates could keep the party united.”
Regarding his own decision on whether to leave the party or not, he replied:
“Some things have matured in my mind, I will formulate them to the president, I don’t think I will get an answer, there will be European elections and the “Renewal and ecological radical left” (s.s. SYRIZA) have no doubt that if it succeeds and elects one or another MEP, it will enter another stage”.
Finally, regarding Stelios Kouloglou’s departure from the SYRIZA Eurogroup, Mr. Vitsas commented: “Everyone makes their own decisions.”
