Euclides Tsakalotos spoke about the rapid developments in SYRIZA, stressing that he is worried about the party’s progress as he sees a “moving away from traditional positions”.

At the same time, he added that “it appeared from the GPO poll that citizens do not understand Stefanos Kasselakis as a leftist”.

“The positions of Mr. Kasselakis are not consistent with the traditional positions of the Left,” he said.

Speaking on the show Kontra 24, Mr. Tsakalotos said about whether he is preparing to leave SYRIZA, that in difficult times with what is happening in the world and in Gaza, calm is needed.

“I have no requirement to be in a party that agrees with me. What will be judged is whether there is room in SYRIZA for the renewing left”he said.

He noted that everything should be discussed and that the Left should submit proposals to the public debate such as the reduction of working hours and that the positions of Mr. Kasselakis are not consistent with the traditional positions of the Left.

Euclid Tsakalotos said that Mr. Kasselakis has a legalized position and that he is not seriously listening to the talk of his removal.

“SYRIZA came out injured from the electoral process”

He also stated that executives who supported Mr. Kasselakis indulged in personal attacks and that SYRIZA came out injured from the electoral process while blaming the executives who supported Stefanos Kasselakis.

“The deletions of Tzoumaka and Fili are wrong”

The coming weeks will judge the unity of the party, he said, adding that I am not optimistic and that it was a mistake to delete executives like Tzoumakas and Filis. He characterized Pavlos Polakis as the most aggressive over the years and that “when you put him in charge, you don’t send a signal for unity”.

“Tsipras bears responsibility”

He put the blame on Alexis Tsipras, saying that he is part of the trauma experienced by the party, and that if he were in his place he would say the following pre-election:

“First, that I do not support anyone, that no one should say that I support them, and third, that no one should say that they are undermining me.”
