He praised the Council of Ministers’ support for the current French Presidency’s proposals, emphasizing the strengthening of the European Mechanism, the active involvement of society and the liaison of the business community with the scientific community, to more effectively address the effects of climate change. .

In addition, the minister supported her proposal European Commission for enlargement of the European Civil Protection Mechanism with the participation of the countries of the Western Balkans, while he underlined that Greece will be from next summer, a node of the Mechanism for providing immediate assistance to the countries of the wider region, hosting additional aerial means of rescEU.

On the sidelines of the Council, Mr. Stylianidis held bilateral meetings and contacts with his counterparts and European officials. The Minister also met with the European Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management, Janez Lenarčič, with whom he discussed at length the Greek initiative for the pilot program, according to which European firefighters will be hosted in our country during the next firefighting season. to provide assistance to their Greek colleagues and exchange of know-how in forest firefighting issues (pre-positioning pilot project).
