The process of issuing identity cards is progressing very smoothly, the Minister of Citizen Protection said from the floor of the Parliament Yannis Oikonomou, noting that the appointments have “opened” and are almost closed until the end of the first month of 2024. We are in a very satisfactory number and flow now, said Mr. Oikonomou in the context of his answer to a topical question of the Hellenic Solution MP K. Cheta on the “need for exclusive edition of the photos to be applied to the new identity cards by professional photographers”.

Elaborating on his question, Mr. Chitas had said that taking photos for the new identity cards at the police stations causes a dramatic reduction in the work for the 3,500 professional photographers, while the ministry spent money for the same purpose, for the supply of relevant logistics equipment in Police Departments.

In his reply, Mr. Economou said that the equipment for the issuance of IDs has been purchased in its entirety and was included in the general costs of supplying software/mechanism of this whole case and reminded that the citizen has the choice, either to go to the police station , and during the ID process to be photographed there, or to go to their photographer and have the photo uploaded to the MyPhoto application. At this stage, said Mr. Economou, we are not considering anything different. But here we are, given that this process will take two and three years, to see how things shape up in the future to see something different.
