The inauguration of new building facilities of the 6th Special Unit of Forestry Operations (E.MO.DE) located near the Midilogli area of ​​Patras and next to the perimeter road, took place tonight, in the presence of the Deputy Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Evangelos Tournas .

As Evangelos Tournas emphasized, among other things, in his speech, “I am given the opportunity today to express my congratulations to the entire Fire Brigade for the enormous fight it has given this year, in dealing with the effects of the climate crisis. Our aim is to strengthen the dominant operational arm of Civil Protection, the Fire Brigade. In this context, we established the six EMODE, with the aim of being the first suppression forces, but also those forces that will remain in the field until the end”.

Also, the Deputy Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, noted that “from the pool of seasonal firefighters we took the first 500 EMODE and built these forces”.

It is, he continued, “about young guys with an appetite for work, with knowledge, with training, with new supplies, such as anti-fire, so that they have the right tools, capabilities and training to act effectively in the field.”

For his part, the head of the Administrative Support Branch, lieutenant general of the Fire Brigade, Demosthenes Ragavas, who represented the chief of the Fire Brigade, lieutenant general Georgios Pournaras, said, among other things, in his speech:

“The state, in the context of strengthening the sense of security in the Greek citizen, organizes mechanisms to deal with and limit disasters from both natural and technological phenomena. Covering the need for an additional support of the firefighting apparatus was carried out with the establishment of six Special Forest Operations Units”.

Speaking about the work of the 6th special unit, he said that “we took part in multiple operations, such as the fires in Attica, Sparta, Zakynthos, Loutraki, but also in the floods in Thessaly”, pointing out at the same time that “the Fire Brigade, is the tip of the spear of Civil Protection of our country”.

The new building facilities of the 6th EMODE are a modern and functional infrastructure of 500 sq.m., which has offices, a training room, and dormitories, while the courtyard space, with an area of ​​1400 sq.m., will have as its main use the basic outdoor education of firefighters.
