The proposal of the KKE for the establishment of a Commission of Inquiry in relation to Tempi “is consistent with what we said from the first moment, that we will contribute so that the crime in Tempi is not forgotten, an assurance that we have also given to the relatives of the victims, in order to assign responsibilities not only political, but also criminal where they exist” says the General Secretary of the Central Committee of the KKE, Dimitris Koutsoubasin an interview with the newspaper “Ta Nea Savvatokyriako”.

“As for the government’s statements that the ND will support the KKE’s proposal “subject to the content”, they show one thing: That the government, by making the need an honor, is trying to get out of the difficult position brought by the cynical and unacceptable statements of Georgiadis for Tempe.

Of course, the proposal of the KKE does not come into conflict with other proposals that will be submitted, such as that of PASOK, which, however, if rejected by the governing majority, leads to the burying of the investigation. Let’s hope that PASOK does not seek something like this with its attitude,” he adds.

Asked if he would find common ground with Mr. Kasselakis or with PASOK on the wiretapping case, he said that “the way in which SYRIZA and PASOK faced and are facing the great wiretapping scandal – of which the KKE was also a victim, but without to show the same sensitivity- allows the government to throw the ball in the platform and hide its great responsibilities, overall and personally of the prime minister. On the one hand, they leave the reactionary legislative framework of “no one is exempt from surveillance” unfired, and on the other hand they use the whole issue for “exercises” and processes in the field of social democracy”.

Regarding whether the KKE is aiming for third place in the European elections, D. Koutsoumbas said that “the current of questioning the dominant policy is strengthening, while at the same time the current of co-operation with the KKE is also being strengthened” which are also recorded in opinion polls after the strengthening of KKE in the parliamentary, but also in the municipal-regional elections “can continue in the European elections with the third place, why not with the second place”.

“However”, he underlines, “we are not waiting for June, in any case, we are stepping forward now so that our people can oppose the anti-popular policy of the ND government, which is developing on all fronts”.

Asked how he comments on the situation in SYRIZA, he pointed out, among other things, that “from the beginning, the whole “scenario” was problematic.” Where “scenario” in the case of SYRIZA, is the alleged achievement of “progress” for the many, leaving the profits of the few untouched, the alleged humanization of capitalism with certain reforms or with a better negotiation within the EU to change the situation quickly ».

Answering the question whether strategically the KKE would be a host for former members and executives of SYRIZA, he said “Well, we already are” and referred to hundreds of former members, even executives of SYRIZA who are in league with the KKE.

“Today we also address in unity to those left-wing, progressive people who gave SYRIZA a last chance in the recent elections and feel disappointed again with what they are watching: Hope, then, is here, with us, in the battles we will fight together” adds D . Koutsoubas noting that “as for some ministers who have now remembered their forgotten left-wing identity and even pretend to be misled, they themselves admit that the criterion of any of their current movements is not to turn the disappointed people of SYRIZA towards the KKE, but to trapped again in failed schemas and new delusions.”

Regarding the new Budget, he emphasized, among other things, that “the new budget reflects not only the new round of attacks on the working-class strata, but also new drastic cuts in social benefits. Neither the objective nor the method followed by the ND government surprises us at all.”

With regard to dealing with punctuality, he recalled that the KKE “has tabled specific proposals for relief from punctuality, for higher wages, for the abolition of VAT on consumer goods and special taxes that further increase prices, for tax relief for employees and the self-employed in burden of monopolistic groups, to ensure cheaper energy for the people. At the same time, however, it highlights the radically different path of development with the people in power, where the satisfaction of the people’s needs can really be ensured.”

Regarding the Palestinian issue and the criticism of the KKE that it “does not separate Hamas from the common people”, D. Koutsoumbas emphasized that “the huge popular mobilizations of solidarity with the people of Palestine, even measurements that are made public, show that the ND government, which has the essential support of SYRIZA and PASOK, is at a great distance from the popular sentiment”.

“The ahistorical position of only Israel’s “right to self-defense” collapses in the face of the slaughter of the Palestinian people, which did not begin on October 7. For decades the Palestinian people have been living the occupation, the apartheid regime and now the genocide by the murderous state of Israel, with the support of the USA, NATO and the EU. At the same time, the Israeli people have also become victims of their policies of his state, paying with his life for the expansionist moods of the ruling class and its imperialist allies.

As for those who, in order to whitewash Israel, focus on condemning Hamas, they are actually seeking to slander the Palestinian struggle itself, to divide the tortured people of Palestine. That is why they are talking about an Israel-Hamas war, but Israel’s main goal – as the attacks on the West Bank, which Hamas does not control, also acknowledge – is the crushing of the Palestinian resistance and the thwarting of any case of a two-state solution, the control of Gaza and its rich sources. Among others, this goal is served by the plans to forcibly relocate the Palestinians from the Gaza Strip to Egypt and other countries, including Greece,” he adds.

Asked if the fifty years since the Polytechnic uprising are a field of convergences, the General Secretary of the KE of the KKE replied that “the Polytechnic has been recorded in the collective memory of the people and the youth not as a field of convergences, but mainly as a field of major conflicts both with the dictatorial regime of April 21 and its international allies, USA-NATO, as well as all those who supported the junta’s masquerade plans, the so-called Marquezini liberalization. Undoubtedly, the heroic uprising of the students and the people in November 1973 was the culmination of the anti-dictatorship struggle in which the forces of the KKE and the KNE made great sacrifices. The most important thing is that the Polytechnic 50 years later still moves and inspires, because it is a shaking proof that the negative correlation of forces can be overturned when the people come forward”.
