The government of Kyriakos Mitsotakis – and himself personally – has been working systematically and methodically for four and a half years now and has achieved a series of very positive developments in the national issue of sculptures of the Parthenonof their claim and definitive reunification at the Acropolis Museum, she emphasized Minister of Culture, Lina Mendoniin the context of parliamentary control in the Parliament.

The issue was raised by the president of Plefsis Eleftherias, who referred to the recent intervention of the prime minister, saying that she watched his interview with the British media yesterday and on the occasion she declared her party’s absolute support for the claim of the reunification of the Parthenon sculptures and the achievement of the integrity of the Monument, however, he stated that the government should and should do much more in this direction and especially to be activated in relation to the revealed criminal action of the British Museum officials who embezzled and channeled ancient objects and Greek antiquities into the private market.

In response, the Minister of Culture, after thanking for the support and emphasizing that the government and the Prime Minister are working systematically and methodically and have achieved a series of positive developments in this national case, addressing Ms. Konstantopoulou, said: “You are absolutely right about the criminal act of of the British Museum, they were the mandated officials who had to guard and protect the exhibits. Here the opposite happened. Justice has been served in the UK, as you know, and it is a case we are following very closely.”

Finally, Mrs. Mendoni pointed out that in any case this fact of this great theft – since it is about more than 2,000 thousand objects – “destroyed with a bang the last argument of the British Museum that the sculptures are better kept in London than in Athena”.
