George Georgantas new Minister of Rural Development, after the expulsion of Lebanon

After expulsion of the Lebanese Caveby decision of the Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, the new Minister of Rural Development and Food will be taken over by the current Deputy Minister of Digital Government, Member of Parliament for Kilkis, George Georgantas.

The swearing in of the new Minister before the President of the Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, will take place tomorrow at 13:30.

The position of Deputy Minister of Digital Government, which was held until today by Mr. Georgantas, is not covered.

Who is the new Minister of Rural Development?

Georgios Georgantas has been the Deputy Minister of Digital Governance since July 2019, in charge of Simplification of Procedures, and a Member of Parliament for the Prefecture of Kilkis. He studied at the Law School of the Democritus University of Thrace and since 1992 has been practicing law.

He was elected Member of Parliament in May 2012, while he was re-elected in June of the same year as well as in the electoral contests of January and September 2015 and July 2019. From February 2016 to July 2019 he was Head of Administrative Reconstruction of ND, following a decision of President, Mr. Kyriakou Mitsotaki. In November 2014, by decision of the Prime Minister, Mr. Antonis Samaras, he took over as Deputy Minister of Education, Religions and Lifelong Learning. Previously, George Georgantas was President of the Kilkis Bar Association and President of the Kilkis Prefectural Council.

Mr. Georgantas has an active parliamentary presence, having participated in various Parliamentary Committees, such as the Standing Committee on Public Administration, Public Order and Justice.

He is married to Efthymia Koliuska and father of two children.
