The official statement after his resignation, addressed to Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, was issued by former Minister of Rural Development Spilios Libanos.
The statement:
“Mr President,
My course in politics so far and my code of values are far from the content of the dialogue with the Mayor of Sparta, which was recorded without my knowledge and posted on a website.
Despite my apparently ironic attitude towards his unacceptable and cynical attitude, in order to avoid any further misinterpretation which could affect the principles of the great and liberal democratic party, I offer you my resignation from the post of Minister of Rural Development and Food. A position which I served tirelessly for 13 months, with the absolute aim of supporting and modernizing the Greek primary production and processing and especially the placement of the Greek farmer in the position he deserves. I am confident that this work will be continued by our government successfully, for the benefit of our country.
Yours sincerely,
Lebanon Cave. “
