The exclusion of the head of Freedom of Navigation, Zoe Konstantopoulou, from the commission of inquiry for the “investigation of the crime of Tempe”, based on the relevant opinion of the Scientific Council of the Parliament, was decided by the members of this commission.

For Mrs Konstantopoulou’s exception was supported by her MPs SW and his SYRIZA-PS while the remaining members of the examination committee voted against. T

the request of SYRIZA-PS MP Vassilis Kokkalis, to also exclude the ND MP, Athanasios Pleuris, as potentially liable for offenses related to the Tempe accident, will be discussed at the next meeting of the inquiry committee.

The Scientific Council had opined that “anyone who acted as a defense counsel or in support of the prosecution or testified as a witness, cannot act as a judicial or prosecutorial officer in this case and, therefore, cannot be a member of it”.

This opinion was formulated after a question, through the speaker of the Parliament, Constantinos Tasoula, the chairman of the inquiry committee, Dimitris Markopoulos, about a possible obstacle to the head of Freedom of Navigation, that there is a question of disqualification from performing investigative duties as a member of the committee, who is a defense counsel for an accused or a defendant in the same case.
