The measures reinforce the logic of collective punishment of teams and fans, says the KO of the New Left in its announcement
“The more reluctant a government is to face a specific problem, the more horizontal and therefore unfair measures it resorts to”, comments the KO of the New Left, arguing that “today’s announcement to hold the games for two months behind closed doors is inconsistent with the government’s announcements for effective anti-violence measures”. At the same time, the KO lists the measures it considers should be taken.
In their announcement, they mention in particular about the measures announced by the government that it is a “shocking decision that reinforces the logic of the collective punishment of teams and fans”. They stress that “the self-evident condemnation of the murderous attack against the unfortunate policeman dictates seriousness, specific measures and above all recognition of the state’s responsibilities”. They point out that our country has the strictest criminal justice system for offenses covered by the sports law, while they comment that “despite the announcements and the demonstration of communicative rigor, nothing seems to change in practice”.
According to the KO of the New Left, in order to deal with fan violence inside and outside the playing fields, substantial measures are required, specifically:
“- Clear framework for the ownership status of the main shareholder of Athletic SA, so that there is no phenomenon of others appearing as shareholders and others managing.
– Strict penalties in Athletic SA, in any case of fan violence. Therefore, changes to the institutional framework legislated by the ND in 2022 are required.
– A holistic plan of preventive measures is needed that includes incentives, solidarity actions, social work, prohibitions and an administrative control and enforcement mechanism.
– The full implementation of the e-ticket is now one-way
– Finally, the Standing Committee for Combating Violence, which is a Committee with authority but without a budget, the necessary means, experts and staff, is now becoming a joke and it is necessary to create a SPECIAL SECRETARIAT for combating violence in the Ministry of Justice”.
