The Minister of Education, Religion and Sports, Kyriakos Pierrakakis, had a meeting with the rectors of the state and non-state universities of Cyprus during his visit to Megalonisos.

At the meeting, views were exchanged on the operation of HEIs and the reforms that made university education in Cyprus a privileged field of economic product production and at the same time transformed the Republic of Cyprus into a strong regional center of university education – a perspective which the government is working to implement in Greece as well – were highlighted.

Mr. Pierrakakis said in a post after the meeting: “In Nicosia I met with rectors of Cypriot public and non-state universities. We discussed the reforms that made Cyprus a regional educational center, focusing on the internationalization of universities and synergies with institutions of other countries.

The extroversion of Cypriot HEIs and the development of joint study programs with institutions from other states constitute a model for attracting students with multiple benefits.

Our own goal is to upgrade Greece’s position on the global academic map – and our entire reform effort is aimed precisely in this direction.”
