In an interview, his representative, Fahrettin Altun, points out the importance of establishing common bilateral mechanisms between the media of Greece and Turkey, in order to maintain the positive climate found during the Turkish president’s visit to Athens.

The head of the Directorate of Communication of the Turkish presidency, in his statements to the television network NTV, referred, among other things, to the forum of representatives of the media of the two countries that was initially held on October 19 in Istanbul and to the second corresponding event that took place in Athens, on December 11 and 12.

Fahrettin Altun finds that the visit of Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Greece took place in a very positive atmosphere “and at this point we saw that a very serious mechanism has been created there, a mechanism that will operate on the basis of mutual goodwill and good neighborly relations”, a fact which – as he points out – was also reflected in the mass media.

As Mr. Altun mentions, “and we, in our own field, have made efforts to develop mutual cooperation in the fields of public communication, public diplomacy and strategic communication. We are trying to institutionalize these relationships in this sense, creating as many common mechanisms as possible.”

He observes that “more often than not, our field, that is, the media field, unfortunately due to the fact that mainstream culture values sensational news, due to the fact that clicks are seen as a measure of success, unfortunately they project the crisis perspective and crisis journalism prevails over news reporting.”

For this reason, as he states, he considers it important that the media contribute by managing the right information, not by imposing it from the top down, but by providing the right information. “Therefore, we attach great importance to the institutionalization of bilateral mechanisms in the media sector” concludes Fahrettin Altun.
