The Minister of Infrastructure and Networks Christos Staikouras mentioned the restart of the railway in the main part of the “Athens – Thessaloniki” network for passenger trains, three months after the major disasters caused by the bad weather Daniel on the railway in the area of ​​the Thessalian plain.
Speaking to ERT, Mr. Staikouras pointed out that a solution to the major traffic problems recorded on the streets of the capital will be provided by the interventions promoted by the Ministry, such as the 250 buses with anti-pollution technology, the creation of model bus lines, the security cameras that have placed on the bus lanes but also the revised Road Traffic Code that will come into force in the first half of 2024.
The leadership of the ministry is working out the last details for the new KOK which will provide for stricter penalties for offenders with stiffer fines for violations that may cause a serious accident.
The Minister answered a question about the increases in toll fees from 1/1/2024, stressing that in 2023 the Ministry succeeded in not having any increases, which is defined in the concession contracts anyway. The increase that will take effect from the beginning of the year will range between 7%-7.5%, where practically depending on the level of toll prices as well as the vehicle category it will start from 0.10 minutes for motorcycles and will reach approx. at 4.5 euros for buses.
