Minister of State Makis Voridis described the bill that the Minister of Education, Kyriakos Pierrakakis, will present today to the Council of Ministers for the establishment of Non-State Universities in Greece, as “historic in nature”.

“If approved by the Council, it will proceed as well will be submitted in early February for a vote in the Parliament“, he said speaking to SKAI and the program ‘SIMERA’.

“There is a decision of the European court which came out relatively recently and connects the operation of universities with universities abroad which is part of the freedom of economic activity within the EU and the decision of the EU takes precedence over the Constitution“, explained

“There is no violation. Previously, this decision did not exist and we could not proceed with the bill“, he added.

“The degrees will be absolutely equivalent to public university degrees. The student will receive a degree which in terms of professional rights will be equivalent to the affiliated foreign and our own public university”

“Also a series of measures will be presented that will upgrade public universities»

Finally, Makis Voridis stated that “there will be strict operating conditions” and how “we will look at the details in detail over time”
