On the occasion of the recent statements of the Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis regarding the non-passing of the billy on the marriage of same-sex couples and childbearing as a result of the strong reaction of SYRIZA on the part of Mr. Stefanos Kasselakis, he spoke on the First Program of Hellenic Radio Nikos Romanos, press representative of New Democracy.

“I will not refer to the reactions of Mr. Kasselakis because it is clear that there we have a question of understanding and it is also a question of his advisors who do not protect him in the part of the Greek language. I even saw a post referring to the expression attributed to the prime minister about the cart and the horse. Obviously it is an expression and someone could very easily explain to him what this expression means. Beyond that, however, to get to the essence of the issue, what the Prime Minister has said both pre-election and post-election, and apparently he responded to it yesterday, is self-evident, meaning that this initiative will come within the current four-year period. It has never been said otherwise. The exact time when it will be presented and the substance and arrangements as well as the spirit of this initiative will be decided by the prime minister himself. So, the original commitment remains that this time will be within the four years. Nothing has changed and of course until it comes it makes sense to have this discussion. It’s perfectly reasonable, but from that to having every week a debate whether it will come tomorrow or the day after tomorrow and so the government backs down and why does it back down and all this exploitation is done in terms that don’t make sense, I don’t think it helps in any direction” stated Mr. Romanos at the beginning of his conversation with journalists.

“I find it difficult to follow Mr. Kasselakis with his posts, one of which is complementary and even contradicts the previous one. As far as we are concerned, what we have said is very clear. So we have said that this initiative, which obviously belongs to us, because we said it before the elections, will come at the time that will be decided by the prime minister within four years” he said at the end when asked what their reaction as a government would be in the event that Mr. Kasselakis re-submits to the Parliament the bill for equality in the marriage of same-sex couples.
