58% of those who say they belong to the political center supported the ND in the last election. The interesting fact, however, is that the blue party would lose 17 points from this category of voters if new polls were held tomorrow.

The political center will always be the “key” to electoral victory. Its composition includes the most moderate voters who are considered easier to move either to the left or to the right. Prorata’s research entitled “the enigma of the center” attempted to solve the mystery of how citizens who place themselves in the center of the political spectrum currently behave and with what criteria they vote.
What is the key takeaway? The New Democracy, despite the fact that it is in its fifth year in power, maintains its dominance in this area. 58% of those who say they belong to the political center supported the blue faction in the last elections. The interesting fact, however, is that the blue party would lose 17 points from this category of voters if new polls were held tomorrow. The largest part of those who no longer choose the current government goes to the undecided (10%), about 8% goes to PASOK (from 11% in 2023 – 17% today) and 2% to SYRIZA (from 7% – 9% today) .
What is the conclusion? How the battle of the center has not yet been decided. It is a volatile space and rights issues and social issues are seen in a more progressive light. It goes without saying that the conflict will culminate in the next period between New Democracy, SYRIZA and PASOK in order to bring this particular category of citizens closer to them. Centrist citizens feel that PASOK is the party that represents them the most (19% New Democracy, 10% SYRIZA, 31% PASOK).
The very interesting element concerns the discussion that has been opened in the last few days by Kostas Zachariadis, Yannis Ragousis and Thanasis Theocharopoulos for the “movement” of SYRIZA from the euro-left group to the social democrats.
62% of the voters of Koumoundourou consider that the party belongs to the center-left and 10% to the center. Total 72%. They estimate that only 28% belongs to the left. And given that the three officials have even asked for an internal referendum on this issue, a big debate is expected to open in the official opposition party in the next period.
When it comes to the hottest topic of the day, same-sex marriage, the answers are telling. According to the survey, 64% of citizens agree with the right of same-sex couples to marry.
58% disagree with adopting children. In relation to the party preferred by 59% of New Democracy voters, they agree with the marriage of same-sex couples, compared to 38% who disagree. For the other parties, 94% of SYRIZA voters and 75% of PASOK voters say “yes” to same-sex marriage. For adoption, things are different. 74% of New Democracy’s supporters disagree and this shows the potential political cost that the current majority from the right may have by voting for it. For SYRIZA and PASOK voters, this percentage drops to 19% and 55% respectively.
