Series of improvement modifications in the provisions of the bill for the establishment of postal voting in European elections and referendahe announced the Minister of the Interior Niki Kerameosimmediately after the positions of the general and special rapporteurs.

“Today we are incorporating several of the fruitful proposals that were proposed in order to vote on a more complete text, a text of more parliamentary common acceptance, which better serves the needs of the citizens,” said the Minister of the Interior and announced that:

  • explicit references to personal data protection issues are added, in articles 8, 10, 15 and 36, according to the highlights of the Personal Data Protection Authority
  • the specifications of mandatory interpretation in sign language are specified, in order to cover 1/6 of the screen for pre-election messages and interviews of political leaders, according to the proposals of the Federation of the Deaf of Greece
  • pre-election messages must be accompanied by sign language interpretation and subtitling
  • the authorization of a third party to send the return envelope will be done exclusively and only in the case of the voter’s inability to send the envelope himself (including PASOK, Freedom of Navigation proposal)
  • it is expressly provided that the ballots of the members of the electoral committees for the selection of postal votes are identical to the ballots of the postal vote, so that secrecy is absolutely guaranteed (s.s. SYRIZA proposal)
  • for the national referendums, the day of finalization of the special electoral lists of postal voters is changed to the day after the issuance of the relevant PD (s.s. marking of the Scientific Service)
  • a ministerial decision is foreseen that defines in detail every technical detail of the procedure and a decision on the electoral lists of voters whose files were not received within the deadline (also SYRIZA proposal)
  • a greater time proximity is foreseen between the sending of the files and the elections (s.s. labeling of the Scientific Service).
