When asked what is the difference between postal voting in European elections and national elections, he answered that national elections are different, they have constituencies.
“I don’t find the reason for such surprises to happen in such a comfortable parliamentary period in terms of time. I consider these to be nonsense, because these are serious issues of democracy,” commented Costas Zachariadis speaking to SKAI regarding the move of the Minister of the Interior last night to bring an amendment to extend the postal vote to the national elections as well.
A condition, in order for the amendment to become a law of the state, is the gathering of 2/3 of the total number of deputies, i.e. at least 200 positive votes are required.
“Some are trying to change the agenda and want to find contradictions where there should be consensus” added Mr. Zachariadis and continued: “We and PASOK regarding the postal vote in the European elections, and while our own proposals were adopted, we were positive. What is the reason for doing this?”
When asked what is the difference between postal voting in European elections and national elections, he answered that national elections are different, they have constituencies.
“In the European elections the Region is united, in the national elections there are issues of locality. Someone from Manhattan cannot vote for Evros,” he said characteristically.
And he added: “I had the suspicion that when the Hierarchy of the Church was meeting, at the same time they brought out this amendment for the postal vote.”
