“Unfortunately, we saw forces of the progressive opposition rushing to give their consent to the Mitsotakis government,” said the president of the New Left
His strong reaction to the sudden filing of the bill in Parliament for the postal vote, expressed the president of KO New LeftAlexis Haritsiseven characterizing the practice as a “small parliamentary coup”.
From Heraklion, where Mr. Haritsis is located, he characteristically stated that “without the slightest consultation, without even a discussion in the competent committee, without even having passed through the scientific service of the Parliament, an amendment came which states that the only way to conduct the vote of national elections for expatriates is the postal vote”.
He then added that “unfortunately, we saw forces of the progressive opposition rushing to give their consent to the Mitsotakis government and finally being forced to back down when they saw that this coup d’état logic was proceeding on the part of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Institutional issues need to be dealt with democratically. That’s what we’ve done from the start. We highlighted the unconstitutionality of the provisions and the dangers they entail for our democracy. We will continue on this path. The New Left will be the force of democratic responsibility, the force of defending the rights of the Greek people”.
