The battle of the center-left ahead of the European elections has begun. The background for the hegemony of the space is rich with PASOK currently seeming to have the upper hand. A planned event, which unexpectedly will be held next Tuesday and published by “KATHIMERINI tis Kyriaki”, brought it up and down in the last hours.

This fact in itself signaled an “alarm” to the party staffs. What are they doing together? SYRIZAthe PASOK and the New Left; This is what many of the executives of the first two parties are reportedly asking, given that there is no common ground and their autonomy strategies are clear.

From Koumoundourou they refrained from making any comment, however there were quite a few parliamentarians and members of the institutions who did not see this initiative with a positive eye. About two months ago, the executives who make up the current K.O. of the New Left proceeded with the second split of SYRIZA. Based on this, they estimate that the memories are still too “fresh” to sit together at the same table again. And in addition – apart from the heavy words they have exchanged between them – that they don’t have much to say. Dionysis Teboneras is an executive with intense activity and is considered by many to be the new pole of the internal party opposition. He belongs to the group of executives that very frequently criticizes the choices of the leadership at the meetings of the Political Secretariat.

There was also a serious disturbance in PASOK for the choice of Manolis Christodoulakis to say “yes” to the invitation made to him by the organization that frames this particular event. In Harilaou Trikoupi, as they emphasize, they had not been informed and besides that they remind that the president of the movement has made it clear how the opening and the discussion for co-operation will take place: “not as a combination of political formations and not from above, but at the level of convergences and, in any case, after the European elections”.

Sources of the party point out that it does not do PASOK any good for one of its deputies to appear discussing with other places “before the people say what they want”, that is, before the dynamics that exist in the European elections are captured.

For her New Left the picture is completely different. No turmoil was caused, as the participation of Efi Ahtsioglou was done in consultation with the parliamentary group with sources stating that they are open to the process of political dialogue for the front against the government. Essentially, the former Minister of Labor will address SYRIZA and PASOK at this event to emphasize that the conflict with ND cannot be done with consensual opposition options.
