The president of the SYRIZA-PS Parliamentary Group, Sokratis Famellos, criticizes the government for its handling of agriculture as well as Education, noting that “the demands and agitations of the farmers are just“, as well as that his party supports the student protests.

Speaking to the radio station “Channel One Piraeus 90.4”, Mr. Famellos says: “While Mr. Avgenakis stated from Agrotica that the demands of the farmers are fair, now the Government is changing its stance and the deputy minister of the same ministry, Mr. Keletsis, argues that the demands are maximalist, that is, that the farmers are asking for a lot. And this is because the Government did not manage to manage the causes of the problems, i.e. accuracy, and now it cannot manage the discussion, the dialogue, which it does not have with the farmers».

Turning arrows against the prime minister states? “Mr. Mitsotakis from the floor of the Parliament announced a measure regarding the return of the excise tax on oil, which I would say is about 1/10 of the needs and demands of the farmers. What was finally done by the government is a travesty. I would say the same about all social groups. In other words, even the measures we have for accuracy, the allowances, the subsidies, the non-management of the filthy lucre, are a mockery. It makes no sense for the Government, the state, to finance the super profits either directly from the pocket or indirectly from taxation. There is a vicious cycle here, fueled by the Government, that makes the rich richer».

Asked about the farmers’ mobilizations, Sokratis Famellos pointed out “The mobilizations and the great majority of the demands of the farmers are fair because at the moment there is a very high cost of production, which no farmer can afford, especially the small and medium farmers».

Referring to the Government’s bill for non-State Universities, the President of K.O. of SYRIZA underlined “Unfortunately for the government there is also reality. I was recently reading from the announcement of the Senate of the Technical University of Athens, one of the best University Institutions in the country, that there is a 60% reduction in resources. Unfortunately for the Government, there is also the truth. The truth, then, is that he is doing everything he can for private colleges to exist, for college graduates to obtain professional rights, for public universities to be underfunded, for the minimum admissions base to exist, which cut 38 thousand positions from public universities and to abolish public university faculties, such as the leading one, the Faculty of Law in Patras, which was founded by the Tsipras Government. This Government has a past and I am afraid that a case like Education wants to turn it into a field of speculation».

Commenting on the student protests, he pointed out “Knowledge and Education is the choice of freedom that young people have in their lives. To choose, to work and to cut. It is the government’s choice to degrade public education and it does so systematically. That is why we support the student protests, because these children support Democracy and freedom».
