Today’s meeting of PASOK’s Executive Committee, which was about same-sex couples, was episodic.

The president of PASOK, Nikos Androulakis, opening the debate in the parliamentary group, argued for the approval of the bill. However, the tone rose when West Athens MP Nadia Giannakopoulou referred to a previous position (from the last meeting) of Rodopi MP Ahmet Ilhan in a previous meeting. And this is because Mr. Ilhan positioned himself saying that he knows that the position of the faction is in favor of yes, but “some of us who have an issue should go to abstention” arguing that this is not bad in order to have room in the local societies. “There are no first-class and second-class MPs, what are we to take all the pressure on ourselves?”

He also added leaving spikes that “some are dragged by metropolitans”.

“Leave it to the church, this is a matter of conscience that needs to be informed,” replied Halkidiki MP Apostolos Panas.

The floor was then taken by Paris Koukoulopoulos who tried to “calm the spirits” by saying that there is time to continue the conversation before the vote in the Parliament – the MP for West Athens insisted: “You will not tell me what I will say or what I will- you’re not my dad.’

Nadia Giannakopoulou also threw nails at Pavlos Christidis for the term “pink washing” he used in his speech about the government. In other words, Mr. Christidis said that the government is doing pink washing by bringing a legal bill that concerns the LGBTI community in order to hide the rest, such as the rule of law. “You shouldn’t have referred to pink washing,” Mrs. Giannakopoulou reportedly said, to which Mr. Androulakis replied: “But Christidis has taken the issue of the Rule of Law entirely upon himself and was vindicated by the European Parliament.”

The decision of today’s meeting was to repeat the debate next Tuesday, where it will be seen if there will be a change in the position already formulated by the deputies.

It should be noted that more than 10 PASOK MPs have filed objections to the bill, while 17 “definitely” yes votes, with a maximum of 20-21.
