The Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is currently speaking in the plenary session of the Parliament, about the bill of the Ministry of Defense for the defense shield of the country.
With the bill, the draft contracts for the supply of an additional six Rafale fighters, 3 + 1 Belharra frigates and modern torpedoes for submarines come into force.
Watch the intervention of the Prime Minister:
“The message that the Greek Parliament is called to send today is a message of unity and national responsibility,” the prime minister stressed at the beginning of his speech.
He welcomed the speed with which the Ministry of National Defense worked on this armaments process in order to take advantage of the situation to promote the broader concept of European defense autonomy.
The backbone of the Greek fleet is the Belharra
The main part of the contracts, the prime minister stressed, concerns the Belharra frigates “which are coming to renew the backbone of the Greek fleet” which was delayed due to the ten-year crisis. He assured that the surface and bottom of the seas are completely shielded, as “the new frigates are cooperating with the new Rafale fighters and the Romeo submarine helicopters”.
Mr. Mitsotakis stressed that at the same time the supply of new type torpedoes will take place, while the new frigates will be ready to receive 4 smaller surface ships next to them, “always guided by the suggestions of our navy”. The relevant decisions will be made by the end of the summer.
“This is a coherent and well-structured operational plan that extends to all 3 branches of the Armed Forces, since important provisions are provided for the army,” he stressed.
Earlier in Greece the frigates – They will cost cheaper
Mr. Mitsotakis announced that the new ships will arrive in Greece early, as they intervened in the production line of the shipbuilding program for the French fleet.
“Thanks to the painstaking efforts of Athens and the understanding of Paris, market prices are extremely favorable, much lower than the initial ones,” he said. He stressed that the agreement constitutes a model of technical and economic transnational cooperation.
Mr. Mitsotakis also stressed that soon the most modernized Rafale will patrol the Aegean, something that gives our country an important strategic advantage over those who plot our sovereign rights.
The ultimate goal of the country’s Defense – What did George Tsipras mean?
The Prime Minister expressed his surprise at the attitude of SYRIZA, which on the one hand says “yes” to frigates and torpedoes and “no to Rafale”.
“You put all this in a parliamentary mixer … to finally come to the present and I ask you if this is a responsible attitude of the official opposition today?”, Said the prime minister.
Addressing Alexis Tsipras, he called on him to clarify the statements of George Tsipras that “the defense of the country is not an end in itself”, as a result of which there will be reactions from the seats of the official opposition.
“For this faction, the country’s defense is the ultimate goal,” said Mr. Mitsotakis.
He called for unity, maturity and a positive contribution, noting that there are other areas for partisanship.
“Now is an opportunity to send a message of solidarity and dynamic readiness to anyone who seeks to stand up to us. Above all, to send an optimistic message that any political disagreement stops where the interest of the homeland begins. There are no swings in such choices, Mr. Tsipras. “Even ‘present’ means ‘absent,'” the prime minister said at the end of his speech.
Do not be surprised if we call you a national dissident at a critical national juncture
In his deuterology, the Prime Minister responded to Alexis Tsipras, listing a series of agreements that either voted against or SYRIZA was present, saying “do not be surprised because we call you a national dissent at a critical national juncture for the country.”
In particular, Mr. Mitsotakis referred to the following:
- You voted against the strategic cooperation agreement with France
- You voted against, breaking all parliamentary practices the country’s defense spending in the last budget
- You do not vote in favor, but you say a resounding “present” in today’s agreements citing disagreement with the additional purchase of 6 rafale
“You have time, change your vote,” he said.
He described Greece’s foreign policy as multifaceted, stating that within 31 months the country’s territorial waters in the Ionian Sea extended to 12 miles, an EEZ delimitation agreement was signed with Italy, a partial EEZ delimitation agreement with Egypt and, in principle, an agreement with Albania. .
Turkey in amok for the Greek islands – Greece’s door closed to threats
For Turkey, the Prime Minister said that he distorts the truth and is in awe of the Greek islands, while falsifying the conditions, history and geography.
“But they got an immediate response from everyone so that they could turn wiser in their internal affairs.”
Mr. Mitsotakis also said that the door to Greece is always closed to any threat and our window is always open to any dialogue based on international legitimacy.
Much higher than the first increase in the minimum wage on May 1
The prime minister announced that on May 1, a new increase in the minimum wage “much higher than the first” will be announced. He assured that the subsidy to the accounts of business and agricultural households will continue for the duration of the energy crisis, while he announced a new reduction in the tax burden, with the first priority being the weakest households.
I understand that you will also vote against the defense cooperation agreement with the USA, which will be ratified within the next month.
