Mrs. Karamanli is the third deputy of New Democracy, who openly declares that she disagrees with the bill, after Thanos Pleuris and Miltos Chrysomallis
“I don’t know when the concept of family lost its sanctity and we reached the point where it is considered ok for a child to never say mom, nor when the rock of our childhood, the father, became an anonymous sperm. If this is progress then I am conservative and retrograde. But if it is a fatal step for the disintegration of social cohesion, the dissolution of the ties that start with the family and define our entire lives, then no, I cannot consent and that is why I am voting against the bill,” said the ND MP,Anna Karamanli by the Plenary.
Mrs. Karamanli is the third member of parliament who openly states that she disagrees with the bill, after Thanos Pleuris and the Milto Chrysomalliand will vote against it.
The ND MP explaining the reasoning behind her dissent, she said that the claim that children face no problems growing up with same-sex parents is unconvincing to her, just as she would not be persuasive by arguing that children who are deprived of both parents or abandoned do not they have a problem. “I am also not convinced at all by the argument about surrogate mothers, that is, surrogate mothers or worse through rings of exploitation of women. The bill may prohibit surrogate motherhood, but as soon as the bill is passed, the surrogate mother will follow with that this entails,” he added.
Finally, Mrs. Karamanli fought back against those who accuse the dissenting MPs of being homophobic and anachronistic and denounced her colleague from the ruling party, who attributed vote-hunting motives to her when she declared that she was against the bill.
