“We are not inventing something. At the moment there are various forms of family”, said the Minister of Social Cohesion and Family from the floor of the Parliament
“The essence of the debate on the bill has to do with who we are, what we want to represent, what kind of state we want. A state that shines light on every citizen or shadows some?’ pointed out Minister of Social Cohesion and Family Sofia Zaharakis during her speech in Parliament.
“We are not inventing something. At this time there are various forms of family. Two parents with children who leave Brussels as a family and land in Greece as 4 people who have nothing to do with each other… We are discussing the return of young people and couples who left during the crisis years and who want to return. To these people we say that the country respects your rights, and your children. He doesn’t consider them invisible.” emphasized the minister Social Cohesion and Family.
Mrs. Zaharaki noted that the government worked on the bill for a long time and the time it took to bring it to Parliament he was not chosen in terms of political interest, as he noted that for ND, equality in the marriage of same-sex couples is not an easy issue.
“Every day and for me, in my constituency, in all the tours I do in Greece, I am asked why the ND had to bring this bill. I answer them clearly that it should have come now and we should bring it. Because the rights agenda everywhere in the West is at the core of their politics and ideology, the center-right parties such as N.D. We are not going to steal the rights as some people have been doing for a long time”, said Mrs. Zaharaki.
And he added: “I want to invite you to vote for this bill to come so that we can all become a voice and a network of protection around children. But also to take the necessary step to grant rights to their parents, and to the people who want to live together. Without any exclusion and without anyone pointing a finger at them. We can all do it together, without asterisks, without footnotes and without divisions.”
Concluding, Mrs. Zaharaki underlined that tomorrow when the bill will be a law of the state and indeed with a broad parliamentary majority, the Ministry of Social Cohesion and Family which will be called upon to put equality into practice will do so immediately and without any discrimination.
