The Minister of Rural Development and Food, Lefteris Avgenakis, seized the opportunity to send a message to farmers, during the opening of the EU Reference Center for Aquatic Animal Welfare. During his speech in Heraklion, Mr. Avgenakis, among other things, emphasized:

“Our farmers, who are on the streets, would be useful to consider that the path of understanding, which leads to the solution of their problems, is open. This road is kept wide open by the Prime Minister himself and this is the biggest guarantee for the struggle they are doing”.

The event was attended by the Commissioner for Health and Food Safety, Stella Kyriakidou, while the Regional Governor of Crete, Stavros Arnautakis.

Also in his speech, the Ministry of Anti-Corruption, among other things, pointed out that “the Greek Government understands and acknowledges the magnitude of the problems faced by Greek producers, but also the broader challenges and issues that now have a decisive effect on the lives of all of us. That’s why he announced a brave package of measures that significantly reduces production costs and supports their efforts in a substantial way.”

At the same time, he emphasized that Greece and especially Crete, can be a Reference Center for the protection of aquatic life. And he added that the prestige and power of the University of Crete and its executives contribute decisively to this, with which there was a common struggle to achieve the operation of the Center in Crete, which for some seemed unimaginable. In fact, he emphasized that the operation of the Reference Center for the Welfare of Aquatic Animals makes our country a force to be reckoned with in the European scientific community, making the University of Crete a point of reference for aquatic animals. Alongside will create new scientific and research actions, as well as new opportunities in the local economy and society.
