Stefanos Kasselakis gave a speech at an event in London on Monday night, in the shadow of the “seismic tremors” caused by the isyriza questionnaire.

The president of the main opposition party described himself as a “new socialist who understands modern reality” and cited Andreas Papandreou as a “model politician in Greece”.

Referring to the SYRIZA elections, he said that “I had no intention of participating in internal elections in SYRIZA. I was in the territory in a non-elective position at the invitation of my predecessor. He neither encouraged me to run for leadership nor discouraged me, he was very neutral. I wanted alone, it was my battle.”

Regarding the Isyriza questionnaire and the noise it caused, he said: “Let me remind you that I am the leader of the party. I was elected saying that I will give voice to the base. It’s not about whether me and the bodies are aligned, but whether what the bodies stand for is what the members want. I have no intention of making the results public. My suggestions will be based on what we say at the conference, in the questionnaire, in face-to-face discussions with members. One doesn’t negate the other. I intend to share the results with the political secretariat.”

Commenting on the announcement of the political secretariat of SYRIZA, he said: “I fully agree with PG that it is not a leadership party, it is a grassroots party and that is what I am doing.”
