In an electrified atmosphere and with successive tensions, the draft law on the changes to the criminal code is being debated for the second day in the plenary session of the Parliament, with the opposition unanimously voting against the relevant provisions.
Responding to the objections of the minority, the Minister of Justice, George Floridisstressed that the bill comes to protect the majority of citizens, accusing the opposition of “double-dealing approaches” and demagoguery.
“This bill that we are bringing wants to protect the poor man’s home, the children who are in a hurry, the doctors who are fighting, the nurses, the rescuers, the teachers. To protect those who will wake them up at night because a drunk ran a red light and killed their child. He wants to lead the Tempe trial to be held as soon as possible with a specific order. You say “no” to these questions posed by the bill. You say no to everything. But you don’t tell us what you want. The Tempe trial with these provisions we are bringing will begin in June. You don’t want it,” the minister pointed out.
Confrontation with Greek Solution, New Left and Victory
The dance of contradictions opened early in the morning with the position of the president of Niki, with Dimitris Natsios arguing that “the new kids move around in packs”.
“We don’t see anywhere that you mention the responsibilities of the state for the lack of structures and prevention measures,” he said characteristically of the regulations brought by the domestic violence bill.
The minister raised the gauntlet, emphasizing that “this legislation of the government is an opportunity to prove that you are hypocrites”.
“With equivocal approaches you want to tell us that you don’t vote for everything that the government brings. Words words words! As for the rest, you are first in the parades”, said Giorgos Floridis characteristically.
The electrified atmosphere was maintained with the rebuttals taking on a personal character.
“Do you know the difference between a right-winger and a right-winger from a left-winger? The most right-wing of the right-wing like me, when I disagreed with my party (PASOK), I surrendered my parliamentary seat, because it belonged to the party. But you leftists took your parliamentary seats and formed another party and are selling us here spirit and morality, replied the Minister of Justice to the parliamentary representative of the New Leftby Nasos Iliopoulos to comment: “Your morality is to wash away the guilty for Tempe, ours is with justice. Good luck, Mr. Floridis.”
“Don’t scratch the shepherd’s shoe Mr. Floridis Simitike” said the Kyriakos Velopoulos from the floor of the Parliament, picking up that thread of personal attacks. “The representative of Simitis comes and wags his finger at us. I really wonder. It is about political audacity”. “K. Velopoule, luckily I’m not new. The Greek people know exactly what I am. When I disagreed with my party, I surrendered my seat and charted my course”, answered Mr. Floridis.
The discussion of the bill is expected to end this afternoon, with the voting.
