“80% of the articles of the Law concern the public university”, emphasized the Minister of Education
“We need a unified strategy, especially for public universities, which the law serves. 80% of the articles of the Law concern the public university”, the Minister of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports Kyriakos Pierrakakis said to SKAI and to the show “Kalimera” with Giorgos Autias.
“On the other hand, we cannot be the only country in the world that does not allow non-state universities. In this way we are solving this historical educational typo, as the Prime Minister said, and at the same time we are opening up our country’s higher education system more, we are internationalizing it,” he added.
Mr. Pierrakakis pointed out that “funding to the public university from the state budget has increased by 50%” and noted that “700 million euros are given only for new student residences”.
On the occasion of PASOK’s refusal to vote in favor of the bill, Mr. Pierrakakis said, “I cannot understand who and why will not vote for the articles on the public university. I believe they have not read the Law because they have used an argument as a reason to vote against which is the core of the Law.”
“The criteria for the establishment of non-state universities are the strictest in Europe”, underlined the Minister of Education Kyriakos Pierrakakis.
