Full of twists and turns it was the last day of the SYRIZA conference, with Stefanos Kasselakis and Olga Gerovasilis engage in a fierce confrontation, but in the end come to the decision not to contest a new presidential election. But what was said on both sides shows that the gap that it separates the two sides is large.
And it may have been agreed not to hold the election, but immediately after Mr. Kasselakis and Mrs. Gerovasili started arguing again. This time about who backed out.
It would not be an exaggeration to say that during this tumultuous SYRIZA congress the “companion knives” came out. On the downside, according to the SKAI report, is that Stefanos Kasselakis won his stay in the presidency, but it is clear that there is no “blank check” something he wanted, and about which he also spoke on Sunday, until 2027. Secondly, his proposal did not pass: elections on March 10. Behind the scenes, there was a lot of ferment since Saturday and by MPs and executives who support him and were considering the “next day” of the elections. Thirdly, and perhaps most importantly, it will be composed Executive Office. This is in the Political Decision, and Mr. Kasselakis will be asked to adopt it in the next period. And if for some reason he had in the back of his mind the organs to change (Political Secretariat – Central Committee), they won’t change. Stefanos Kasselakis won to remain in the presidency, but he did not get a “blank check”.

On the positive side of Olga Gerovasilis is that she stands out in a new “strong pole” with many presidential officials with her, and it certainly symbolizes Alexis Tsipras. She gained political time, while those around her commented that those who collected signatures to postpone the elections were on the side of Mr. Kasselakis, so they consider what was done to be hypocritical. At the same time, it became clear that Alexis Tsipras preferred her to leadership. Mrs. Gerovasili registers the rallying of her own group, the “presidential” ones, but also registers some “new entrances”, with support to the Congress from Christos Spirtzis, Athena Linou and Katerina Notopoulou.
