A battle sought by whom it was lost, despite the fact that it was never fought, was ultimately his conflict Stefanou Kasselakis with the Olga Gerovasili at the SYRIZA conference that ended yesterday afternoon.

Stefanos Kasselakis may be late at night with MPs and executives in a bar in Kolonaki to relax after a very difficult four days, but he has a mountain to climb in front of him. The two “poles” of SYRIZA as they formed in the last few days tried to blame each other for not holding the elections. Sunday’s debate on the conference stage was even more intense than Saturday night.

Tones rose, in Tae Kwon Do the atmosphere was electric and one can hardly imagine that SYRIZA will be led united until the European elections in three months. And of course how to avoid the next episode. The organs will convene and it seems that “white smoke” will hardly come out. It was seen through the top process of the party that the rift is deep. SYRIZA has returned to where it was before the conference, only now the “blocs” that have been formed are clear and the war between them, at least at the moment, greater.

Even after the conference ended, there was a split over the vote at the end of the proceedings. Did it or didn’t it?

THE Pavlos Polakis, however, posted on his Facebook account the Political Decision in which there is the proposal submitted by Sokratis Famellos, Nikos Pappas and Giorgos Tsipras: “The party must not enter a new cycle of introversion. There is no need for a new election of the President. The Congress confirms its confidence in the President Stefanos Kasselakis and instructs the President and the party bodies to go united in the next political and electoral battles with the first one of the European elections, with a single political function, all bound by our Statute and Declaration, for the interests of society and the country. With camaraderie and collegiality and with the positions and decisions of the 4th congress as a tool, we reconstitute the Executive Office with a regular function to strengthen our political action, which we authorize to process proposals to complete the transformation of party”.

The question is whether, but also how quickly, the president of SYRIZA will now proceed with what many executives were asking him to do. To set up this informal body that will take the form of “morning coffee” and will outline the party’s political line every day.

After the end of the conference the conflict between the two “camps” continued. The press representative of SYRIZA, Dora Avgeri, blamed Olga Gerovasilis for the withdrawal.

“Olga Gerovasili said if you want in a month you can go alone, so there is no need to declare her presence in elections. The congress clearly ruled that we have a president and no elections are needed and we move forward with the trust of the Congress established in president Kasselakis and we move forward to the next battles with the order to change everything”, he said.

Olga Gerovasili responded by declaring that she never withdrew her candidacy. “The congress is a sovereign body. She made a decision to ‘vote against’ the proposal of the president Stefanos Kasselakis,” he said, mentioning that there were three proposals: The proposal of the president of SYRIZA to go to elections on March 10, to which she replied that she would never work against the Statute”.

From the environment of the vice-president of the Parliament, they stress that it is obvious that Stefanos Kasselakis had the majority in a conference of 2,800 delegates, the vast majority of whom were not elected but appointed. If he really wanted an election, he would have won it. On the contrary, he did not dare to do so but put his own people to work so that elections would not take place.

It is clear that the winners of the conference include the “troika” of Socrates Famellou, Nikos Papas and George Tsipras whose proposal to postpone the elections even prevailed over the president’s proposal. Will they play a role in the next period? Stefanos Kasselakis won to avoid being led into a new battle five months before his election – a fact not at all attractive for a leader – but it is clear that he does not have a blank check and will be judged “harshly” by his internal opposition on the evening of June 9 if the result is not the desired one.

In this climate, Alexis Tsipras he essentially gives, through leakage from the environment of his “divorce”, until his next intervention which is not expected soon. “Alexis Tsipras said everything he had to say in his statement. Everyone will be judged by the results”, was his comment. The intervention of the former prime minister and his opinion as the basis for deciding whether or not to challenge Stefanos Kasselakis was not accepted. The body of the 2024 conference was very different from that of 2022 and the new president proved that he has the upper hand. As a result, it seems that such strong correlations were not created in her favor Olgas Gerovasilis, bringing together all the parts of the old “presidential”. What has reportedly become clear is that Stefanos Kasselakis can no longer use his capital.
