George Tsipras, director of the SYRIZA Parliamentary Group, speaking on Tuesday morning in the First Program, did not rule out the possibility of Alexis Tsipras returning.

“Personally, not only do I not rule it out, I wish it and I think a lot of people wish it too, but it’s not about now in any case. It’s about the future” he said characteristically.

He pointed out that Alexis Tsipras is a great asset for the democratic faction as a whole and not only for SYRIZA. “A lot of people trust him and refer to him, not only through SYRIZA, I think from the wider progressive space and in this sense it is far from over” he added.

“Let me put it this way. Until the elections of May 23 and June, the people who were electorally positioned to the left of the New Democracy was more than 50%. I don’t think, even if there are changes and obviously there are changes, we have a strengthening of the right and far right together in our country at unprecedented levels, I don’t think that this world has ceased to exist, evaporated in some magical way. He may have gone home, he may not have gone to vote, he may have voted for smaller parties, but this world exists. But what exists at the same time is a huge lack of expression of this world. Obviously we didn’t manage to express him and that’s why we went to 18%, but PASOK doesn’t express him either. Therefore, there is a big gap that needs to be filled, if we want there to be another pole in Greek society that expresses progressive policies” added Mr. Tsipras.
