“I have one purpose, to serve society. I expect everything. I am ready” the president of SYRIZA told ANT1
“My dream is not to become prime minister, it is to offer to my country” said the president of SYRIZA-PS, Stefanos Kasselakis, in an interview he gave to ANT1’s “Breakfast”, with Giorgos Liagas.
St. Kasselakis commented that unlike him, “there are those who were born to become politicians” and, as he said, “one of them rules the country”.
Referring to the tragedy of Tempi, he left sharp points against the prime minister, that “the Mitsotakis fireplace protects the Karamanli fireplace” and called on the people to pressure the ND MPs to request a preliminary investigation into Kostas Ah. Karamanlis.
Continuing, he spoke of “financial interests” behind the cover-up efforts, pointing out that “they rushed to cover up”. This “state of impunity” was seen in Brussels, he commented on the resolution of the European Parliament, and emphasized: “There is political responsibility for this crime and no one has taken it.”
Asked about his “social relationship” with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, he referred to their meeting in America that took place through a mutual friend, however, he said he was “disappointed” by the “opposition” he made to SYRIZA.
About him Alexis Tsipras, denied that he was “behind” his candidacy, clarifying that he remained “neutral” and that, after his election, they spoke several times. He also denied that he was “hurt” by the former prime minister’s attitude before the conference, commenting, however, that he “had to come”. St. Kasselakis stated, in fact, that he has not spoken with Al. Tsipras after the conference, but that he intends to speak.
Regarding the changes he plans for SYRIZA, he said that his goal is to become a “deeply social” party, while pointing out that “today”, unlike in the past, “the ideology is solid” and that there are no “taboos”. . However, he pointed out that he himself does not want to change the name of SYRIZA and that he is “proud” of SYRIZA and “the work that has been done”, but, as he said, his aim is to listen to the members.
Regarding the European elections, he pointed out that he wants to make the “ultimate reversal”, predicting that he will far exceed 17% of the national elections, if SYRIZA manages to “listen to society” and “ground”. “SYRIZA does not think like PASOK. We have clear positions,” he emphasized.
For Olga Gerovasili and their recent meeting, he said that they “always had good relations” and that the message from the conference was “clear” because she “did not want to lead the party” and the delegates were saying “hands off Kasselakis”. “There is the moment of unity, there is also the need for enlargement” commented St. Kasselakis, repeating that anyone who wants to challenge him before or after the European elections, should do so, while he expressed the certainty that “he will win again”.
As he characteristically said, the important thing is that he has “an alternative governance proposal, based on meritocracy” and that he is “building a shadow government with real excellence”. Asked about it, he even said that he believes he will govern “at some point with SYRIZA”.
Regarding his relationship with Pavlos Polakis, he said that it is “good”, characterizing, however, his decision to refrain from voting for marriage equality as “wrong”.
Regarding his livelihood, he explained that he lives off the money he has collected from his work and businesses in America and that thanks to these activities he has a good understanding of fishing, shipping, industry and finance.
Besides, he pointed out that he wants to be completely “transparent” to the world, which is why he was open from the beginning to publicizing his personal life as well. Then, he detailed his journey in America but also how he ended up in Greece and running for the presidency of SYRIZA, stressing that any “doubt” about his motives might hold him back in the polls. As he said, in fact, in closing, his motives are “pure” and he wants to “unite, not divide”.
In this context, he mentioned that he also spoke with Achillea Beo, with whom there was a conflict over his comments on the sexual identity of St. Kasselakis, stressing that “he has no intention of taking revenge” and that his goal is to make SYRIZA a “good government” with “good administration”.
