The Member of Parliament of Fthiotida, Yiannis Oikonomou, explained where the long-lasting and long-lasting supremacy of the New Democracy lies, but also the deep crisis that runs through the Opposition.

“It reflects a long-term and long-lasting political dominance of New Democracy, Kyriakos Mitsotakis and the policy we implement. The basic features of the political scene have not changed, because these are shaped into various snapshots of the moment based on the perception people have of the country’s direction.

There is the recognition of the vast majority of Greek society that if anyone can expect a solution and a way out from somewhere, it is from the Government of the New Democracy. The world recognizes political pragmatism and realism, that the New Democracy fights all issues, absolute empathy, that we preserve things and do not go back down the slopes that brought us to adventures in the past.

That’s why the people don’t just listen with disbelief, but have rejected – in practice both at the ballot box and in the polls – wishes and “left trees” that are shared on the right and the left, in the logic that it will solve their problems.

There is a rise of parties to the right of New Democracy, which is a pan-European trend. We should not ignore it, nor underestimate it. This world as a whole is not far-right, nor obscurantist.

We must approach the issue with care, to speak to this world, which in its majority is anxious about the issues of everyday life, for its children, the nation, our collective.

The golden intersection between the liberal principles and the conservative values of the New Democracy can speak to the soul and heart of this world, to pull it away from extreme populist movements.

The Government has a specific narrative, in which it is consistent with the citizens. Without much words, with actions. Opposite what is there? A buzz, an incomprehensible plunge into the past, a competition to who will be the most excommunicated. This is the main reason for the deep crisis faced by the Official Opposition and the inability of PASOK to take advantage of it.”
