The president of PASOK pointed out that the main priority for PASOK is the strengthening of the public university
Continuing the dialogue with educational institutions regarding the government’s bill for the establishment of non-state-non-profit universities, the president of PASOK-Movement of Change, Nikos Androulakis, met at noon at the K.O.’s offices with rectors of major universities in the country.
“For us, the regulation of higher education must be done through dialogue, with absolute respect for the Constitution and by setting priorities that will give it life in the long term and not through arrangements” emphasized the president of PASOK-KINAL, while supporting how the draft law that debated in Parliament on non-state universities prioritizes arrangements.
“There must not be a false start in terms of in non-state universities, because distortions can be made, which in the end do not create the rules so that there is a framework of higher education which will improve the current scheme of operation of the universities. We will be by your side not as agents of immobility, like other opposition parties, but as agents of progress who want the normalization and perspective of higher education” underlined Mr. Androulakis, stating that without a unified design on the university map, we are heading for two-speed universities.
He pointed out that a key priority for PASOK-Movement of Change, it is the strengthening of the public university and he added that “… every government has a duty to support the public university in terms of services, provision of supplies to students and research, where unfortunately our country is far behind the European average”.
The meeting was attended by Ioannis Hatzigeorgiou, rector of NTUA, Spyridon Kintzios, rector of the Agricultural University, Christina Koulouri, rector of Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences, Georgios Kormentzas, dean of the Polytechnic School of the University of the Aegean, Charalambos Billinis, rector of the University of Thessaly, Stavros Kaminaris, vice-rector of Academic Affairs University of Western Attica.
