Determined to make a difference in matters of accountability of the Regional Authority to the citizens said the Regional Governor of Attica, Nikos Hardalias, in his article in the newspaper “PARAPOLITIKA”, entitled “Accountability is our democratic seal.”

On the occasion of the first Special Accountability Session of the Regional Council at the beginning of last week, Nikos Hardalias spoke about the establishment of a “deeply democratic institution”, which is the “modern version of the “Didona speech” of the ancient Athenians”, a process which – as he noted – opens a new page in the way the self-governing bodies operate in Greece, will be repeated every two months and in which “the philosophy and, above all, the ethics that govern our own perception is concentrated”, as he pointed out.

The Regional Governor of Attica reported that at the first meeting there was a “substantial review and constructive dialogue” on 11 issues, eight of which were raised by the opposition. Among other things, the Regional Councilors were informed in detail about the Development Program for Western Attica, amounting to 540 million euros with 64+ projects to be implemented, the “unyielding” fight against de-pollution – without discounts and exceptions for any violator – the termination of Falirikos Ormos, the largest urban regeneration in Attica for which it was committed to be completed strictly within the stipulated 36 months, as well as for the immediate restoration of the Kalloni-Epidavros road, which was destroyed by “Daniel”, after the unjustified delays which – as he underlined – they occurred for more than five months.

He also added that the meeting was also concerned with the concept of metropolitanity, as a key element for the holistic approach to the issues that concern the citizen, in order for them to be resolved immediately and definitively. “Accountability will be an essential imprint of our term. Because not everyone is the same. And why we are determined to make a difference” concluded Nikos Hardalias.
