He appeared optimistic Andreas Loverdos that the “Democrats”, the party he founded a few days ago, will exceed 3% claiming a seat for the new European Parliament.

In a press conference for the presentation of the party, Mr. Loverdos mentioned, among other things, that the response from all over Greece to his initiative is important and that supporters are already being formed everywhere.

He made it clear that he will be a candidate in the European elections and that the ballot of the “Democrats” will include some former MPs and government officials from PASOK, while he announced that two election centers will operate in Athens and Thessaloniki.

Andreas Loverdos emphasized that the “Democrates” is a purely centrist party and addresses voters of both the ND and PASOK, for which he emphasized that it is “leaving the space of the Center” to the Left. He added that if he is elected, he will join the Group of Liberals (Renew) in the European Parliament.

He announced that on March 20 he will announce the secretary of the party and on the 26th the representative, who will probably be a woman, both “fresh faces” as he said.

Responding to a question about the recent statements of the former SYRIZA Minister of Justice, Stavros Kontonis, regarding the prosecution of political figures in the Novartis case, Mr. Loverdos emphasized: “A simple apology is not enough (s.b. meaning Alexis Tsipras). The case will be closed when the hoods come off and the hoodlums are revealed.”

In his introductory statement, Andreas Loverdos, stated that today there is a general insecurity, despite the fact that some positive things have been done in recent years, and that the “Democrats” combine patriotism with reformist policies and populism.

“Our fight in the European Parliament will be for an accessible, fair, efficient Union. We will fight for Turkey to withdraw the casus belli. It does not make sense for a country that wants to join the European Union to threaten one of its members with war. And the government still underestimated the case of Freddy Belleris. Albania’s path to the EU must be suspended”, argued Mr. Loverdos.

“The “Democrats” will fight for the implementation of the Constitution. of the entire Constitution. Which, as is known, imposes the protection of the homeland, the nation, the people. We forget that. I repeat, we will not give away patriotism to the fascists and the extremists,” he declared while pledging to support “everything positive the government does. But we will criticize or denounce all the negatives. As we did in the draft law on non-state non-profit universities.”
