The absolute belief that the extension of the fence to the Evros will further secure Greece’s borderscreating a greater sense of security for all Greeks, he expressed the Minister of Citizen Protection, Michalis Chrysochoidisduring his visit to the part of the new extension of the fence in the wider area of ​​Didymoteicho.

The new extension of the fence is 35 km long. and is built from the height of the village of Psathades Didymoteicho to the area of ​​Kornofolia Soufliou. The construction projects foresee the erection of a metal railing five meters high, in which a special sheet metal will be placed to prevent climbing. Furthermore, new elevated observatories will be created that will have anti-ballistic protectionwhile existing outposts and observatories will be improved and maintained.

Mr. Chrysochoidis, during his autopsy on the part of the fence being built near the city of Didymoteicho, emphasized that work is progressing at a very satisfactory rate, noting: “in a little while we will complete 70 km. and then we will proceed with the expansion towards our northern border, so that the entire border at Evros is covered. At the same time, we are proceeding with all the necessary projects for the electronic surveillance of our borders”.

The Minister of Citizen Protection in his statements underlined that the fence extension work will be accompanied by other initiatives such as the recruitment of 150 new border guards in Evros and the modernization of all security infrastructure on the border.

“We want to assure all citizens in Greece and Europe that our borders will become more secure, the eastern European borders for which Greece is responsible are shielded to the maximum extent possible. In this way, citizens who want to enter our country and the European Union ia they enter through legal entry points within the framework of a democratic and solidary Europe. Thus, everyone will travel with the rules of legality” he pointed out.

Evros

Michalis Chrysochoidis made a special mention to the Greek Police and the Armed Forces of the country noting that there is good cooperation and that the police and the officers of the Armed Forces are working to protect the Greek borders.

When asked if the government is concerned about the possibility of migration flows to the south of the country due to the events in Gaza, he noted: “Instability in the region is a factor that should worry us. We must be alert and mobilized to deal with the consequences that this instability may have.”
