In London is on a two-day visit the Minister of National Defense Nikos Dendias. Today he will meet in the House of Commons with Labour’s “shadow” Defense Secretary John Healy and tomorrow with National Security Adviser Sir Tim Barrow.

According to information, among the topics that the Greek minister is expected to discuss with his interlocutors is the situation in Gaza and the wider Middle East, the developments in Ukraine and broader security issues, especially after the recent terrorist attack in Moscow.

The Greek Ministry of Defense places special emphasis on relations with the United Kingdom not only because it is an ally and strategic partner in NATO but also because of the special weight it has as a country in matters of international security.

It is characteristic that Mr. Dendias was in the British capital in the middle of the previous month where he had similar meetings. It is noteworthy that as Minister of Foreign Affairs in 2021 he signed the Greece-United Kingdom Strategic Framework memorandum with his then British counterpart and future Prime Minister of the country Liz Truss. It is an agreement between the two countries that covers a range of sectors from foreign policy and defense to culture and tourism. Meanwhile, in February 2023, the then Minister of Defense Nikos Panagiotopoulos signed with his British counterpart, Ben Wallace, the Declaration of Defense Cooperation between Greece and the United Kingdom. The purpose of this Declaration is to strengthen the already close relations between the two countries so that they can face common threats and challenges together, as well as closer cooperation.

Tonight, Mr. Dendias will participate in an event for the anniversary of March 25 organized at the embassy residence in London.
