According to the Turkish side, the date has been “locked” and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will meet with US President Joe Biden on May 9 at the White House.

Many issues will be discussed at the meeting, including the F-16 and the Greek-Turkish ones, as broadcast by Manolis Kostidis from Istanbul.

A few days later, Mitsotakis’ visit to Ankara is planned, probably on May 13.

The Turkish media comment that this is Erdogan’s first visit to the US during Biden’s term and a few months before the US elections.

CNN TURK TV reported: “Erdogan’s important meeting will be on May 9 with his visit to the US. President Erdogan will be officially welcomed by US President Joe Biden. This will be President Erdogan’s first official visit to the US during Joe Biden’s presidency.

Erdogan’s last meeting with Biden took place on July 22, 2023 at the NATO Summit in Lithuania. The F-16 procurement process will be on the agenda of the Erdoğan-Biden meeting. Issues for faster delivery of F-16 fighters will be discussed. There will also be consultations on the amount of 1.6 billion dollars that Turkey has paid for the F-35s. At the meeting between the two presidents, Turkey’s operations in Syria and Northern Iraq with the aim of combating terrorism will also be discussed.

After the elections, Erdogan is expected to welcome the President of Russia Vladimir Putin, the President of Egypt Sisi and the Prime Minister of Greece in Ankara.”
