Today, Erdogan will ask the top officials of his party for explanations for the electoral defeat
The re-elected mayor of the city, Ekrem Imamoglu, sent a video message of thanks to the citizens of Istanbul for last Sunday’s result: “Thank you Istanbul. Democracy, equality and brotherhood won” he says in the video.
“This morning they defeated 16 million people. Moms and dads who see the future of their children with greater security. Young people who want a greater chance at equality. Farmers who get support for their production. The women, the pensioners, the disabled, the workers won. Today brotherhood, equality and democracy won. Against those who say ‘Istanbul is ours’. Those who say ‘Istanbul belongs to all of us’ have won. Now is the time to go full speed ahead. Thank you Istanbul!”.
Yesterday, Ekrem Imamoglu was close to the people taking a leisurely stroll through the streets of Istanbul.
“Mayor… we all tried together but no one else could bring them down….. Only you. You are the apple of our eye. Ekrem, you raised the lost morale of Constantinople.”
On the other, ErdoÄŸan is calling the members of the Central Committee today and will ask for an explanation for the electoral defeat.
In the meantime, the Milliyet newspaper reports that “Erdogan Focuses on Visiting Mitsotakis, Putin and Meeting with Biden”.
“Erdogan thought he was invincible. He saw that it is not like that,” the Turkish media reported after Sunday’s election result that gave victory to Imamoglu.
“He is alone and a one-man regime prevails” comment in Turkey.
Fatih Portakal, presenter at SOZCU TV, said: “Mr. President, I wonder what message you got. What will you do in the next 3.5 years. Your government is run by one man system and this result came. We are experiencing this result because your party is under the regime of one man. There is no democracy in your party, that’s why you didn’t find serious candidates for Ankara and Istanbul. You do not have a second person with you, you did not create a person. And since there is no democracy in your party, there is also a one-man regime in the country. Erdogan considered himself invincible. Just like his audience thought he was invincible. They said that when Erdogan appears, victory will come. But it didn’t happen that way.”
