In Nisyros the president of SYRIZA – Progressive Alliance, Stefanos Kasselakis, was present yesterday, as part of his multi-day tour of the Aegean islands.

The inhabitants of the island welcomed him by describing in detail the serious problems they face, mainly in terms of transportation and the connection with the nearby islands.

The tragic situation and the extreme understaffing of the hospital in neighboring Kos forces the residents of Nisyros to travel all the way to Athens, with the total, unbearable, cost (transportation, accommodation, food) exceeding 1,000 euros, as the residents explained to St. Kasselakis.

The president of SYRIZA-PS warmly thanked the volunteer health workers who have selflessly covered the huge gaps in the public health system for decades.

He reiterated that strong incentives and highlighting of the islands’ comparative advantages are needed in order to realistically set the critical goal of decentralization.

Next stop of Stefanos Kasselakis’ tour, Kos.
