How did the Prime Minister comment on yesterday’s victory of the championship by PAOK
“The next few years will be years of huge changes for the better for her Thessaloniki“, the prime minister emphasized Kyriakos Mitsotakis during the meeting he had at noon on Monday with the mayor of Thessaloniki Stelios Angeloudisat the town hall.
Mr. Angeloudis greeted the Prime Minister at the entrance of the building and then the two went to the office on the 3rd floor. There, Mr. Mitsotakis thanked the mayor for the hospitality, in this first meeting inside the town hall and added:
“We have already developed a very good partnership. And I think the results are already visible. I see a difference in the cleaning sector and a plan implemented by the municipality”.
Mr. Mitsotakis particularly focused on the metro project, saying that it will be available for use by citizens by the end of the year, but also on the circulation of the first electric buses on the streets of Thessaloniki. “By June, all 110 electric buses will be in circulation. They are modern, quiet, with air conditioning, ramps for our fellow citizens with disabilities”, said the Prime Minister.
“In the city there is a great activity from the private sector, not only in hospitality, in health, important manufacturing infrastructures and this says that everyone understands the future of Thessaloniki. We have reason to be very optimistic”, added Mr. Mitsotakis, during the first conversation in front of the journalists.
Mr. Angeloudis, for his part, thanked the Prime Minister for the support and financial aid given to the municipality both in the cleaning sector and in the Eleftheria Square project:
“Already the cleaning plan is being implemented and you will see the difference in the image of the city. For Eleftherias Square we already have a contractor whom we will announce, after checking the supporting documents, in the next ten days. Within four months, the project was auctioned and I think that in October, Eleftherias Square can be founded”.
Immediately after, a private meeting between Mr. Mitsotakis and Mr. Angeloudis followed, in the presence of the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Christos Staikouras, and the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure, Nikos Tachiaos. According to information, the mayor mentioned to the prime minister the problems of the school roof, the damaged roads and sidewalks, asking for financial support, while the PAOK stadium was also at the center of the conversation, on the occasion of the victory of the championship by the Dikephalos of the North.
“If you can bring the league and cup to the city, it will be an impressive double”
“Many were happy for the championship. I am happy because we had an excellent and competitive championship. The best team won and the championship came to Thessaloniki. This is important for the city, but this morning the city was clean and this means that some people worked at night to manage the festivities that took place”, said Mr. Mitsotakis in the discussion with the mayor that took place in front of the television cameras.
“The joy of the city is justified and if you allow me, there are reasonable hopes that it will be repeated next weekend,” added Mr. Angeloudis, with the prime minister replying:
“If you manage to bring both the championship and the cup then it will be an impressive double.”
Immediately after the end of the private meeting between Mr. Mitsotakis and Mr. Angeloudis, a short meeting with the entire administration followed. The prime minister informed the vice-mayors and appointed councilors about the projects running in the city.
“I feel very optimistic that within this government term, which largely coincides with yours, we will be talking at the end of four years about another city. For the completion of important infrastructure projects”, Mr. Mitsotakis told them.
