His first official one visit to Greece by the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, just a few months (i.e. the end of February) after the visit of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis to Doha, a meeting during which the Qatari side had expressed the will to strengthen cooperation with Greece in the economic and investment field.

The visit of the Emir of Qatar and his meeting at Megaros Maximos with Kyriakos Mitsotakis, at 11:30 tomorrow morning, expected to signal the strengthening of bilateral cooperation in a number of sectors with an emphasis on the economy and investments, but also on energy, tourism, defense. As government sources also report, they are expected to be discussed and regional developments, as the Prime Minister’s meeting with the Emir of Qatar comes at a critical juncture for the Middle East and the wider region, as the humanitarian tragedy in Gaza continues. In addition, EU-Qatar relations will also be on the agenda of the discussions.

Qatar is an important country in the region that has assumed a mediating role in the negotiations for the release of the hostages from Hamas. Role, which according to the same sources, the prime minister recognized in the last meeting he had with the Emir of Qatar in Doha, standing at every opportunity in favor of every initiative to de-escalate and protect civilians.

The Emir of Qatar will be accompanied during his visit to Athens by the head of his office and the ministers of Transport, Energy, Trade and Industry, Culture, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Director of Studies and Research and the CEO of the Qatar Investment Authority (Qatar Investment Authority), one of the largest state investment bodies in the world.
