Provocative reports from Turkey’s state media, which speak of “Turks of Western Thrace”, “Turkish minority” and “Macedonian minority in Greece”.

The state-run Anadolu news agency, ahead of the June 9 European elections, presents an interview with the president of the Equality, Peace and Friendship Party, Çiğdem Asafoğlu. The party he leads is entering the European elections with 42 candidates, of which 25 are women.

AsafoÄŸlu tells Anadolu that she is particularly happy and proud to have assumed the presidency of such a party as a woman and notes: “While other Greek political parties are struggling to find female candidates, this year we started with 25 women who believe in their struggle , who are fighters, mothers, and sisters”.

AsafoÄŸlu expressed hope that this will be a model for “Turkales of Western Thrace” and stated that they received positive comments about this image during the visits they made to the villages, in the context of the June 9 European elections.

And he continued: “The Turkales of Western Thrace have always been very brave. When we look at the photos from January 29, we can see how many women were there. They were always very brave, always dedicated to their goal and had a fighting spirit.”

“Macedonian minority in Greece”

AsafoÄŸlu also said that among the 25 female candidates is Eugenia Natsoulidou, who represents the “Macedonian minority” in the Edessa region.

Besides, TRTHABER reported yesterday: “There is anxiety in Europe about the European elections that will be held June 6-9. In the region of ‘Western Thrace’ in Greece there is a special excitement”.

Presenting the history of KIEF on the Turkish channel, the following was mentioned: “Founded by the ‘Turks of Western Thrace in Greece’, it continues to be the voice of the ‘Turkish minority’.” The KIEF founded by Dr. Sadık Ahmet is participating in the European elections that will be held from 6 to 9 June and has started an intense pre-election campaign. Party President ÇiÄŸdem AsafoÄŸlu states that, despite the difficulties they face as a minority in Greece, they will continue to defend the rights of ‘Turks of Western Thrace’».

“It is really very difficult to be a minority in Greece. And especially being a turkish minority is even more difficult. Because they deny our identity, they don’t count us, they act like we don’t exist,” AsafoÄŸlu told the camera.
