In less than 24 hours the polls open for the European elections of June 9.

From the voting, the 21 members of the European Parliament corresponding to Greece, out of a total of 720 seats, will be elected.

A total of 9,796,330 voters are registered in the electoral rolls, of which 4,755,686 are men and 5,040,644 are women. 111,500 new voters have the right to vote for the first time.

His right elect in these elections, Greek citizens aged 17 and over, i.e. those born before the year 2007, can also vote. Citizens of the other member states of the European Union who live in Greece can also vote, provided they are registered in the special municipal electoral rolls of the country. Their number in this election is 13,023.

The non-citizens who vote at their place of residence in joint polling stations together with other voters number 166,679.

For the first time the letter vote

The 2024 European elections in Greece will be written in history primarily because the postal vote was implemented for the first time. 202,515 Greek voters from the territory and abroad were registered on the relevant platform.

Voters who had chosen to vote by mail and ultimately did not do so or sent their ballot late will be able to vote by mail after 11:00 am at the polling station where they are registered.

Polls in a total of 18,380 polling stations across the country open at 7 am and close at 7 pm. To find out which polling station and school complex they are voting in, citizens can refer to the website of the Ministry of the Interior in the section “Learn where to vote” (https://mpp.ypes.gov.gr) or contact the telephone number: 213 136 1500 daily from 09:00 to 21:00.

Citizens are recognized for exercising their right to vote by showing their police ID or the relevant temporary certificate from the competent authority or their passport or driver’s license or the individual health record of all insurance funds. The identification of the military and those serving in the security forces is done by their military or service identity cards.

Any “clipped” ID cards are acceptable. Identification can also be done using the digital identity. European Union citizens are identified on the basis of a valid identity card or a valid passport or driver’s license.

As announced by the Headquarters of the Hellenic Police, the Identity Offices and Passport Offices of the Police Services, throughout the country, will operate over the weekend, beyond their designated opening hours. Specifically, the ID Offices on Saturday 8 June from 08.00 to 20.00 and Sunday 9 June from 07.00 to 19.00, while the Passport Offices on Saturday from 08.00 to 15.00 and Sunday from 07.00 to 19.00.

The number of crosses

Voters can place up to four crosses next to their preferred candidates. However, if more than four crosses are placed, the ballot is not invalid but is counted in favor of the combination, without taking into account any preference cross.

A total of 1,168 MEP candidates who are on the ballots of 31 parties claim the voters’ preference.
