“PASOK does not celebrate. It increases its power and this cannot be avoided. It shows that he is progressively moving forward, he is not galloping, but it is not a retreat”, said associates of Nikos Androulakis when the assessment of the election result was finalized by the Ministry of the Interior. As they noted, in the image of the electoral map, PASOK dealt a blow to the government and already two regions are green. These are Lasithi and Heraklion in Crete, where it occupies the first place.
In Harilaou Trikoupi they emphasize that a second party is registered behind New Democracy in 21 electoral districts (Aitoloakarnania, Arcadia, Argolis, Grevena, Dodecanese, Evros, Evrytania, Ilia, Thesprotia, Kavala, Karditsa, Kozani, Laconia, Larissa, Lefkada, Pieria, Rethymno, Trikala, Florina, Halkidiki, Chios). They add that in the June 2023 elections, PASOK was ahead of SYRIZA in 10 regions. In June 2024, PASOK has outperformed SYRIZA in 23 – where PASOK is the 1st or 2nd party – and in 6 constituencies where PASOK is the 3rd party (Drama, Serres, Kilkis, Rodopi, Pella, Imathia).
As they point out, New Democracy has recorded a clear lag both in relation to the national elections of 2023 and in relation to the lower bar, which it itself invoked, namely the European elections of 2019.
The same actors comment on leaks from SYRIZA that Stefanos Kasselakis will proceed with initiatives to reconstruct the progressive space. They remind that pre-election Nikos Androulakis committed, for his part, that he will make his own proposal in political and progressive terms. “Mr. Androulakis did not set imperial conditions but explained that we need credibility in society and not a give-you-give-me charade, which is abhorrent to the citizens. And there everyone will be judged”, they emphasize.
As they say, the decisive factor will be the final result of the ballot box, which has nothing to do with exit polls. “Otherwise the discussion takes place with 17% and otherwise when the two parties are almost equal”, they note, recalling that Mr. Kassellakis had said that he was talking to PASOK officials and not to Mr. Androulakis.
